PERSONAL STATEMENT
1.Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.
I think that taking leadership in any way is a big responsibility, because those who are around you look at you and at some point they want to be like you or even learn from you something new. I feel like I have had to take leadership experience at work, when I had a night shift with a new incoming worker who I had to show and tell what had to be done. I had to teach the lady what was to be finished; I was really nervous because I was scared to tell the lady something had to be done in a certain way or if I said something and she thought it had to be done in a different way. I didn’t want her to think I was being bozy because being a leader isn’t about bossing people around, but to teach them and help them on something they're stuck, teaching them something you know that will make their life easier. I felt confident and I was able to teach her well about what we had to do in the kitchen area during the night shifts there at the “Lindsay Food Center”. This experience made feel really good about myself knowing that the lady was happy with my work in showing her leading her through that shift was such a good feeling when I got told by my manager the next day I had work
4. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.
As I started high school I would have never imagined myself doing any level 4s or taking any AP classes;of course now I am thankful for being enrolled in AVID for all 4 years . One of the reasons I say I am thankful for being part of AVID, is because it has taught me to overcome my fears and to challenge myself in taking AP courses. My junior year I took AP spanish language, and now as a senior I am taking AP spanish literature, I have to say that this class actually feels like a college course. I chose the spanish pathway because I want to be a teacher and if I can I would like to become a bilingual teacher. I also took advantage of these AP spanish courses and the level 4s I have done for all of my classes, because I knew it would help bump up my GPA and passing the AP spanish language exam, now gave me credit for college. I am planning to attend a 4 year university it is why I am doing everything I can to get accepted to Fresno State I want to attend Fresno State and major in Liberal Studies, it is why I have and will continue to make the best of ability in taking advantage of the chances I get educationally
5.Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
The most significant challenge I have faced, but overcame was working 6 days a week and to manage my time to get all my work done for all my seven classes during my junior year. It was extremely hard to finish all my classes but what kept me motivated was keeping my spot in CSF. It was hard to see that I wasn’t as close to my family anymore I wasn’t attending any family reunions, because if i wasn’t at work I had to be doing school work. It was affecting my academic achievement, because I was always asking for extra time or extensions with my assignments; so I would still be able to turn them in and get full credit. I was able to do this throughout all my junior year and beginning of my senior year it was beginning to affect me my senior year with my job shadow, which I didn’t do the summer of my senior year because I was working full time and 8 hrs and I wanted to shadow a teacher. What I did to prevent from falling behind was quit my job because they didn’t want to give me part time hours. And my senior year I knew I wasn’t going to be able to ask for extra time on anything there's deadlines for everything and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to meet them if I was still working.
6. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.
My favorite academic subject is spanish, not because I already speak it, but because it helps me improve my vocabulary in my spanish speaking skills. It helps me speak the proper way in front of people, because most people might think that because I know spanish it’s easy to take advanced courses in the language, but the spanish I raised to speak isn’t proper thats why im interested in learning to manage the proper way of speaking and writing spanish at a higher level vocabulary. It has influenced me because I want to become a bilingual teacher for grades 2nd-3rd, I want to help students learn as they grow up to speak spanish the proper way so they have a better understanding by the time they get to high school.I would like to be a teacher who prepared her students so they get the chance to take advantage of their educational opportunities. I strongly believe and am influenced by my parents that working in a job where you speak bilingual there can also be a chance where you stand out when applying for a job.

Personal Narrative
As you live through life, you have many people who tell you can’t do something or you won’t accomplish the things you propose yourself to do. It may put some people down and for others it’s like a motivation to proceed and accomplish their goals.I know it happens to those who say “I can’t do it or won’t finish it”, but it motivates me to continue and not stop until I’m finished. I have to say it motivates me to keep going, because I have had people say those things to me, I don’t take it as an offence it just makes me a better person in getting my things done.
People tell you that you won’t accomplish something is hard to get through, but all you have to think about is on getting done proving to them you can. You might struggle but in the end you’ll having it accomplished is the best feeling ever. In life getting negative comments on doing something is always horrible especially if it comes from adults. I have had comments in which I get put down but I’ve heard others who surround me who get put down even worse. I work at the “Lindsay Food Center Market” with another friend of mine I met there she is 20 years old and came from Mexico about a year ago. She is a very nice girl who would never dare to talk back to someone no matter how bad they put her down.
This friend of mine was insulted badly by the lady in charge of us there in the kitchen, it all started one day when we sold 2 tacos for a dollar. It was our 4th of July special, as you can imagine there were tons of people rushing for the tacos. My co-worker and I stayed that day with our boss till 8pm to get orders token out; we were cooking up 80 tacos per order we had so much pressure, because we didn’t want our customers to get mad for the long waits some had to do.
My boss asked…
“Jessica what order are you making?”
I answered “I’m doing the 40 taco order”
She then asked my co-worker “and you are you taking out any orders?”
She answered” yes I’m done taking out one”
Our boss said “that’s it?? All you have done is one you can’t move your hands any faster you can never be quick enough to make things quick”
Hearing my boss say something like this to her, even put me down. I know in my part it wasn’t ok to stay quiet I could have done something about it, but I didn’t because my coworker asked me not to say anything to the store owner. So I didn’t but then one day she came in and told our kitchen boss she had to leave that she wasn’t going to be working there anymore. Our boss asked why and my co-worker said she couldn’t work for someone who treated her so bad and humiliated her in front of so many people. From this I have learned it is not okay to let people tell you things that can hurt you mentally in doing things and accomplishing your goals it is why I do thing till their done some might be late, but it’s better late than never.
